KURUMBA BAY

RAPA Chartered Architects has recently completed “Kurumba Bay”, a bar, restaurants and a pool that’s located on the coast of down south, Weligama. Right from the beginning, we didn't have much trouble choosing the main style, which is natural and rustic, because the beach Side owns an open, wide and airy space; in harmony with the fresh, open nature and sea. On the original color from timber material, we chose white for the large walls to naturally lead the light from the outdoor space to the inside using few worm white electric light.

Designed with a beach aesthetic in mind, this modern bar and restaurant showcases natural materials, like reed, cane, micro timber, iluk roof throughout its interior. Those materials are used in a variety of ways, including wood-framed screens that are integrated throughout the interior and make for cozy looking vibe. Timber materials help define the different areas of the bar and restaurant and added a natural shaded element from the sun’s heat. Lighting is another design element made from canes, complementing the screens and the atmospire. Also it’s adding to the overall ambiance of the restaurant design. In addition to timber, other materials are rough plaster and exposed white washed cement block walls, light weight steel open type constructions. Major material used for the beach front is wood, in order to make the construction completely reversible and friendly to the natural environment. Restaurant outlet interiors have been done by themselves with the consultancy of their architects & Interior designers.
